New Menu! - Today we launch a new menu for autumn. We have incorporated into this new menu lots of great ideas and suggestions received from our diners during our 8 weeks in business! We have retained a very talented consultant chef to help us with this menu and are very excited about it. We have kept a couple of favourites from the old menu but the rest is brand new and the desserts are to die!
We will be following this up shortly with a new lunch and a Xmas menu along with a diary  of events and activities up to and including New Year festivities.
Keep tuned!

Weekend of 12 and 13 Sept - We have been busy lately developing new menus including one for Christmas. More of that very soon!
We have managed to source a couple more casks of Rudgate Ruby Mild and they will be on this weekend along with Butcombes Bitter.
We will be offering a Sunday Roast this weekend along with our new full menu.

Weekend of 12 and 13 Sept - It will be a busy weekend as The Rose and Crown is providing all bar and catering services for a large local wedding. However normal service will be provided throughout the weekend and a roast will be served on Sunday. If at all possible bookings would be very much appreciated.
Unfortunately the Rudgate Ruby has all gone but we will try to get some more. In the meantime Tring Sidepocket will resume its place at the bar along with Butcombes and Adnams Bitters.

4 Sept - Britain's Champion Beer - Only at the Rose and Crown Ivinghoe!

Read more about this fabulous brew on CAMRA's site here or on Rudgate's site here.

We will let this little beauty get comfortable in the cellar for a couple of days so it will be on sale from Monday. It was very difficult to secure this stock and I do not know when I will be able to get some more. So come in sooner rather than later to lay claim to a pint or two!

Bank Holiday Weekend - We are open all weekend for business as usual. We will be serving our menu on Saturday. On Sunday will be a roast (Pork and Beef) as well as many of our usual menu items. And we have plenty of Butcombes in the cellar! (as well as our usual ales and beers). Monday will be our usual hours and menu.

Weekend of 22/23 August - If you have not already been in to sample the Butcombes Bitter, do not delay! It has been selling VERY quickly and we have ordered more barrels to be tapped on Saturday. During Friday and Saturday we will be serving our menu items. On Sunday we will be serving a traditional English Roast dinner from 12.30pm tp 6.00pm. The joints are pork and beef, both sourced from Groom's Farm. Some items from our menu will also be available on Sunday.

20 August - Verre du Vin Installed and Running!

laying an inert layer of gas over the surface of champagne and sparkling wine.

Come in and see it in action!

19 August - All Change on Real Ales !

The Butcombes and Sidepocket are now in the cellar recovering from their journey and will be on tap tomorrow, Thursday. To make room for these two, we will be saying goodbye to Spitfire for a while.

Weekend of 15/16 August - We are starting to adapt to having temporary chefs in the kitchen. Last night (Friday) was very busy and we are serving food all weekend. Most of the Summer Menu items will be available tonight (Saturday) and lighter salads, panini and wraps will be available during the day. We will serve a roast tomorrow (Sunday) as well as some a la carte items. If you are interested in trying the Wooden Wonder this weekend then hurry on down! It is proving very popular and we are getting through our initial delivery at an alarming rate.

12 August - Food Situation Getting Better! - Still no Dawn but we have a temporary chef on board from Thursday so most menu items will be available. Download the menu from the menus page and please book if possible!

11 August - Evening Drink at The Rose and Crown - This warm barmy evening is perfect to relax after a hard day with a glass of wine or a pint in the Rose and Crown garden or on the front patio. Dinner is on from 6.00pm so you do not even have to go home to get dinner ready! Chef is back tomorrow but in the meantime our reduced menu is proving very popular.

9 August 2009 - Sunday Food - We are once again without a chef. Today we will be serving wraps and toasted sandwiches all day (chicken, lamb or vegetarian) and from 5.00pm will be serving a traditional lamb roast. The Arkell's summer al proved a big hit but has regretfully all gone now. We are looking to get something new and different again next week.

8 August 2009 - No Chef Dawn again today - Unfortunately Dawn will not be with us again today. We are unable therefore to take any more dinner bookings for tonight. Existing bookings are of course fine.

7 August 2009 - What Have We Done to Upset the Pub Deities? - Chef Dawn had a  car accident yesterday, Thursday and was not able to come to work. However we were able to press on and satisfy last night's diners with a reduced menu and received very positive feedback from diners! Unfortunately Dawn has woken this morning with a sore arm and will once again be unable to work. Based on last night's positive feedback we will continue service tonight with a reduced menu. We already have a lot of bookings tonight so if you are thinking of coming to eat tonight, please call to make sure we still have tables and for information as to what is available. We will be trying to contact existing bookings today to advise of the reduced menu.

5 August 2009 - Grubs Up! - Click here for our new food menu. Available from Friday 7th of August although items will be phased in from today 5th August. At this early stage, bookings would be very much appreciated.

4 August 2009 - Plea for Opening Night Photos - We have already been given some great photos of the opening night but want to put up a gallery of the night on this site and are looking for more. If you took photos on the night and are happy to share them then we would be very grateful if you would send them to us at info@roseandcrownivinghoe.com or drop prints, negatives, memory stick, CD or whatever into us at the Rose and Crown. Thanks!

2 August 2009 - Sunday Roast - We have yet to properly commission the kitchen (more of this in a later update) so our ability to serve food is very limited for a few more days. However Dawn has managed to conjure up a good old fashioned roast (choice of lamb pork or beef) for today. Best get in early as availability is limited. Served from 12.30.

29 July 2009 - This Weekend at The Rose and Crown - After this Friday's opening day, the Rose and Crown will be open from 11.00am to 11.00pm Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday an all-day barbeque will be available from midday and on Sunday a roast lunch and dinner will be available, also from midday. Also on Saturday, entertainment for the children will be available with two magic shows between 2.00pm and 5.00pm plus balloon making and other fun activities.

28 July 2009 - Chef Appointed to Rose and Crown - We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dawn Plumridge to position of Chef at the Rose and Crown Ivinghoe. Dawn is a professional chef with 20 years experience in the UK and overseas in a wide variety of pubs and fine dining restaurants and has won awards for her dishes. Raised in South London and educated at Nottingham University (degrees in Food Science and Food Biology) Dawn has a grown-up family and now lives nearby to Ivinghoe. Dawn starts tomorrow (Wed 29th) and is developing a very exciting menu for introduction next week. More of that later!

26 July 2009 - New Wine List - After a thorough search and much tasting, the initial wine list is complete. We have concentrated on the winemaker's talent rather than that of the marketing department so our wines are not only superb quality but also great value. Our wine preservation system means we can offer all wines by the glass with no quality degradation. And we do not charge a premium for wine by the glass! It is the same price per ml as the bottle.

23 July 2009 - World's Best Choir to Entertain at Opening - The Beacon Community Choir will welcome patrons to the opening of the Rose Crown with songs from their collection with the possibility of a new one for the occasion.

23 July 2009 - Speaker to Attend Opening - Knowing an historic event when he sees one, Local MP for Buckingham and Speaker of the House of Commons  John Bercow will cut short all other engagements to attend the opening of the Rose and Crown on 31st July.

23 July 2009 - Reopening on 31 July 2009 - We can now announce that The Rose and Crown Ivinghoe will be re-opening on Friday 31st July! The Ivinghoe and Pitstone local community together with friends of the Rose and Crown are invited to the opening night celebrations from 7.00pm on Friday 31st July. Click here to download the notice that will be delivered to all Pitstone and Ivinghoe households this week.

16 July 2009 - We now have the licence! The Rose and Crown Ivinghoe is once again licensed premises. This clears the way to opening night, a date for which we will be able to announce very soon. We are in the process of confirming one or two special guests to join us  at opening night  to help the village celebrate the return of its pub. Check back soon for the big announcement!

14 July 2009 - Well, we may have been a little optimistic in our last update. The AVDC will of course issue the licence in their own good time and when they see fit. We understand there are no barriers to this happening and we hope that it will be this week! On that basis we still hope to open in July but realistically it will now be very late in July.

5 July 2009 - We have now had a meeting of parties concerned with aspects of the relicensing of The Rose and Crown. Their concerns are understandable and justified and arise from past unfortunate experiences. We are anxious that the operation of The Rose and Crown does not unreasonably restrict neighbours' peaceful enjoyment of their properties and have agreed to some changes to our licence application. In turn all submissions objecting to aspects of the relicensing of The Rose and Crown have been withdrawn.

This clears the way for Aylesbury Vale District Council to issue a premises licence to The Rose and Crown Ivinghoe without further delay. We expect their confirmation of this early in the coming week.

On that basis we will anticipate announcement of the opening date in a few days.

Yay!

3 July 2009 - We have now received formal written advice from Aylesbury Vale District Council regarding the grounds of the objections to relicensing the Rose and Crown and regarding the process we need to undertake from this point.

Regarding process, a hearing has been set down for 2.00pm 21st July 2009 to determine our re-licensing application. An appeal process is available after this. However time and cost probably preclude this subsequent step as an option.

Regarding grounds of the objections, they are general and quite wide ranging but essentially centre around the risk of nuisance a public house can cause in a close-quartered residential area. Previous owners of the Rose and Crown seem to have adequately managed this risk to the satisfaction of the community. We will argue our case that we too are capable of managing this risk and note that legislative censure is strong if we fail to do so.

Vicarage Lane must have once been a bustling little thoroughfare with the large coaching inn at the top, the bakery and store on the way down and the Rose and Crown at the end. That of course has largely changed now with a shift to well presented residential properties. Ultimately the policy makers, having due regard to the wishes of the community, will determine the Rose and Crown's future as a licensed premises and whether it can maintain its status as a public house. We will certainly argue strongly the case to maintain its historical grant as we cannot accept an erosion of its previously enjoyed licence terms nor can we accept further imposition of red tape compliance obligations. To do so would ensure business failure.

Finally, thanks to all those who have voiced or emailed their support and to those who have offered their support during this process.

30 June 2009 - Today we had hoped to announce the re-opening date of the Rose and Crown. However late yesterday we received news from the Aylesbury Licensing Authority that they have received submissions objecting to aspects of our application to re-licence and re-open The Rose and Crown. We know nothing more until formal advice is received in writing later this week but do know that this could take weeks or months before we know where we stand.

Clearly at this time we are unable to say anything meaningful about the future of The Rose and Crown. The combination of possible trading restrictions and the inability to trade the summer weeks or even months is grave.

In the meantime we have reluctantly (and we hope temporarily) had to wind down works underway to refurbish the Rose and Crown. We are very sorry for any downstream difficulties this causes. The work done to date has been superb as anyone passing the Rose and Crown will attest. Also, we will contact directly those individuals, firms and community organisations with whom we have had employment, supply and sponsorship discussions to agree timing and a way forward.

If you have not already done so, please join the mailing list at www.roseandcrownivinghoe.com so that you might receive timely and accurate updates on matters as they develop.

27 June 2009 "Pull the First Pint" Raffle Winner: Congratulations to Stewart Bunce of Pitstone who today won a £50 Rose and Crown Voucher and the right to pull the first pint at the re-opening of The Rose and Crown! The raffle was drawn at today's Brookmead School Fete with all proceeds going to the school.

7 August 2009 - Who Needs summer when you have Arkell's! - We have a new guest ale on the pumps, Arkell's Summer Ale. Arkell's Summer Ale is refreshingly light in both colour and taste. At 4.0% ABV it is suited to whatever weather the British summer has to offer and has been a favourite with Arkell's drinkers since it was introduced in 1994. Arkell's is Swindons oldest company and the beer is still brewed in the same way as it was when John Arkell first made it in 1843. This is a delightful brew and was given a big 'thumbs up' by all those tasting it last night!
12 August - Local Ales on Tap - As part of our push for local products and suppliers, we have Tring Brewery Wooden Wonder (4.1%) as a guest beer from Friday. Pale amber and triple hopped to  deliver a complex hop character. The finish is pleasantly dry and floral. This beer is named after the famous World War II plane, the De Havilland Mosquito. It was designed and built in Hatfield and was almost entirely made of wood, hence the name.
We have some very exciting ales coming in over the next few weeks. Starting yesterday we took delivery of some Butcombes Bitter from Somerset. This is a 4.0% abv beer with a hoppy, malty, citrus, nose and light fruit notes with a long, dry, bitter finish. Butcombes bitter is a 3 times finalist in the Great British Beer festival.
Also delivered yesterday were barrels of Tring Sidepocket for a Toad. The Wooden Wonder was so well received that we just had to try more from this excellent local brewer. Responding to our customers' preference for lower abv ales, we are going to serve this 3.6% brew alongside our Adnams Bitter (3.7%). Citrus notes balanced with a floral aroma and crisp dry finish make this straw coloured ale a fantastic session beer. It offers an alternative drinking experience to the Adnams Bitter which emphasises malt and 'hoppiness'.
We stock some very fine wines and like to give our customers the opportunity to sample these fine vintages by the glass. The problem with purchasing by the glass from most bars and restaurants is that the quality of the wine starts to deteriorate soon after its bottle is opened. If the wine is purchased from a bottle which has been open for a few days, the quality will have materially deteriorated.
To address this we have installed a wine preservation system which fully preserves opened wine. It does this by removing oxygen and
Don't ask how, but today we took delivery of a supply of Ruby Mild from Rudgate Brewery, North Yorkshire. Rudgate Ruby Mild has been voted the best beer in Britain - CAMRA's Champion Beer of Britain 2009 - after a year of local tastings panels and regional competitions culminated in a final judging at last month's Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court, London.
